Last Friday, The Underline‘s first phase Brickell Backyard finally opened after years of grant-funding, research, design, and outreach. Thanks to their partner Miami-Dade County Dept of Transportation and Public Works, they have completed construction of the first half mile of The Underline and you can visit now!
The Brickell Backyard section is right below the Metrorail from the Miami River to Coral Way. This first portion measures one-half mile and 9 acres, of the eventual 10 miles long the entire project will be when completed. The Underline’s trails are lit at night and always open. The Gym is open from 7 AM to 9 PM.

The site is beautifully filled with 30,000 new native trees and plants, birds, butterflies, areas to sit, walk, bike, play and even socialize your dog. You can hang out on oolite boulders or walk your dog in the River Room, eat at the 50 foot Dining Table or take a Selfie at the Sound Stage Plaza sponsored by FPL in the Promenade, play basketball or soccer on the Flex Court sponsored by Swire Properties, take a jog or do some sit ups in The Gym sponsored by Baptist Health, and see The Allegory, their first art installation by artist Edny Jean Joseph in the Oolite Room.
With funding from Miami-Dade County and private donors like you, The Underline’s team welcomes a donation of any amount to make sure The Underline is beautiful on the day it opens and even 20 years from now. For more information, head here.
