Every week we look forward–impatiently–to the weekend with serious bated breath. That moment of rest, relaxation or even entertainment that we’ve earned for a busy work week. But, we’ve never been ones to do anything traditionally, so it has to be emphasized that cultural fun and exploring our city shouldn’t have to wait until the weekend. So whether it’s virtual, educational, or splurge-worthy here are some fun things to do this week courtesy of our Editor.

Watch Award-Season Front-runners

We’re big fans of killing all of the birds with one stone. So, if you’re addicted to watching festival favorites and award show front-runners, why not stream from one of our local cinemas while you’re at it? Both Coral Gables Art Cinema and The Tower Theater are showing this year’s most talked about indie favorites: Minari, a look inside a Korean-American family’s struggle in rural America; and Nomadland, a breathtaking take on nomadic life starring Frances McDormand. (They’re also showing some of them in-person too, if that’s more your thing.)

Miami-Dade County’s Black Communities: History, Present, and Future

Miami-Dade County’s Black community has been part of the bedrock of the county since its founding in 1836. But discrimination and a lack of access to capital have dogged our Black neighbors from the start, often impeding self-determination and greater successes. Miami Book Fair seeks to focus on the County’s past as a means to understand the present and position the community for a better future. The program will include public Q&A.
