Adaptation and inevitable evolution are essential parts of our planet’s complex life cycles. Even under extreme circumstances, some of the most interesting responses to fighting for survival pave the way for life to flourish no matter what. Whether it’s at the deepest ocean depths or unbearably high temperatures, life persists and so do the creatures that are born from that natural selection. At Frost Science‘s latest exhibit, Nature’s Superheroes: Life at the Limits, you’ll be able to come face to face with some of those powerful creatures and get immersed into their environments in person.

Running now until April 11th, 2021, the special exhibit is organized by the American Museum of Natural History and features life-size and larger-than-life models, videos and interactive exhibits. If you’ve ever wondered why an animal looks or acts a certain way, this is where you’ll learn how species’ greatest traits are tailored to the harsh environments that birth them. All of these multi-sensory elements come together to bring these spectacular organisms and their habitats to life for curious scientists of all ages. We’re talking caves where animals without eyes survive, floating hammerheads, pungent flowers, and surprisingly strong insects.

The exhibit also features a hands-on kinetic digital game where you can put some of these superheroes’ strengths to the test yourself. Walk the several interactive spaces and get face to face with the key truths that open the door to better understanding our incredibly complex planet. Learn about microscopic animals that cheat death. Get to know the tube worms that survive in superheated sea water. See how some creatures can survive without oxygen. And observe the ways in which treehoppers disguise themselves from predators in plain sight.

While you spend the day in the socially-distanced, cautious exhibit, you’ll learn more about your own existence on this planet by meeting our fellow inhabitants that have overcome unbelievable odds to survive. Get inspired by life’s ability to persist, no matter what. Nature’s Superheroes: Life at the Limits will be on view now through Sunday, April 11, 2021 inside the Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery on the first floor of the museum. Admission to Nature’s Superheroes: Life at the Limits is included with all museum admission tickets. Additional information on the exhibition can be found here.
