Contrary to popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not a holiday in celebration of Mexico’s freedom. In fact, Mexican Independence Day falls on September 16th and lucky for us, South Florida is home to a bustling and colorful community. Whether you decide to take the trip down to Homestead and pay your respects or just want to munch on tacos from the comfort of your own home, there are plenty of great spots around town offering killer specials in celebration. Check them out:

La Santa Taqueria

The newest Mexican spot on this list, La Santa Taqueria is going as all out as you can given the current circumstances. Swing by the Little Haiti/Little River outpost for 3-for-2 tacos all day and have a feast. Or, pass by at 6pm for DJs, a mariachi band, and margarita and tequila shot specials.

One of our favorite destinations for Mexican fare in town, Taquiza is putting on the heat as usual. Look out for delicious margarita and cocktail specials from their next-level bar program. But more importantly, stop by to try their brand new ‘masa battered mahi taco’ for Wednesday only.

Coyo Taco

Did you know that National Guacamole Day and Mexican Independence Day fall on the same date? In honor of this magical moment, Coyo Taco will be selling Guacamole Kits for customers to make their signature guac from the comfort of their own homes. You can pre-order for $20!

Take the Mexican experience to the next-level at one of Wynwood’s more breathtaking outposts. Bakan‘s eats and drinks are well-known the city over, and tomorrow you can expect an authentic Mexican menu featuring cocktail specials and even a mariachi band starting at 8pm.

Taquerias El Mexicano

One of Miami’s most beloved Mexican restaurants still proudly in the heart of Little Havana. Take advantage of Taquerias El Mexicano‘s brand new courtyard and dive right into holiday specials like $10 Oaxacab Tlayudas (Mexican Pizzas), 2-for-1 Micheladas, and more.

In true Miami Beach fashion, Bodega Taqueria is going hard for Mexican Independence Day. You can start it off by posting up for happy hour specials all day including complimentary guac. Or, gather your germ pod and splurge on their $50 beer + tequila package (6 Cayaco beers + 200ml Dobel Tequila). If that’s not exciting you, you can still celebrate from home with 20% off delivery using the code: VIVAMEXICO.
