Everyone has probably lost count of the amount of movies and shows they’ve streamed while staying safe at home during the pandemic. However, the itch to go back to the movie theater and experience these films in person is becoming more unbearable by the minute. If you’re anything like us, you love going to the movies–especially Miami’s many great independent cinemas. Have no fear! Here’s how you can support these art house theaters virtually from home:

Tower Theater

This historic Little Havana cinema was among the first to transfer their programming online with a virtual calendar. Tower Theater is offering a multitude of international and independent darlings, available to rent or to virtually stream live together. MORE INFO

Coral Gables Art Cinema

One of our favorite art house theaters in town, Gables Art Cinema’s online calendar is packed to the brim. Their virtual screening room is filled with international masterpieces of new and old, and gives you the opportunity to support their space while they remain closed. MORE INFO

Nite Owl Theater

As always, this indie rotating theater has been keeping up with their mysterious persona. While they might not be streaming films, per se, they’ve been heavily hinting at launching a 35MM Drive-In theater alongside their alter ego, Secret Celluloid Society.

O Cinema

The once beloved indie theater and art space occupying landmark locations around Miami and The Beach, O Cinema has lived up to its name even throughout the pandemic. Their virtual cinema has been dishing out film festival favorites and award season shoe-ins you can’t miss. MORE INFO

Miami Film Festival

As our city’s leading purveyor of independent and international film, Miami Film Festival has stayed true to its nature with a consistent calendar of powerful, virtual screenings. You can start by tuning into their screening of “When Liberty Burns” online for Juneteenth this Friday. MORE INFO
