BLCK Family presents Freedom Sessions: Inikio (live) – Since 2015, Miami based artist collective, the BLCK family has been exploring how artists use sound to get free via an installation series called Freedom Session. Infinite Space at ARTECHOUSE Miami – This fall step inside INFINITE SPACE, the first major retrospective of the work of award-winning, Los-Angeles-based, Turkish-born artist Refik Anadol Studio, and open your senses to the endless transformations and infinite possibilities at the intersection of man and machine. The exhibition explores memories and dreams through the mind of a machine by using the tools available to twenty-first-century artists – datasets ranging from human memories, photographs of Mars, cultural archives and sea surface activity as data sculptures and digital paintings.

Tour Tropical Audubon’s Historic Doc Thomas House – Visit the historic Doc Thomas House for a captivating, 45-minute guided tour led by a Tropical Audubon Society docent. Learn about the Birds’ benefactor Arden Hayes “Doc” Thomas and Robert Fitch Smith, the architect Thomas commissioned to design the house. Tour the distinctive, wood-and-limestone structure with its many ornamental and built-in features. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, named a Florida Heritage Site and designated a Dade County landmark, the charming 1932 cottage is an architectural gem. Gain insights into local South Miami and Audubon history, too. Visitors may also take a stroll through our Steinberg Nature Center pollinator gardens and nature trails, weather-permitting.

Romare + Pional – If you put it the wrong way, you can make something sound dry and academic, when actually it’s inspired by love. Archie Fairhurst, known as Romare, wears his love for all to see – in fact, he takes his very name from it. Whatever Romare does, it’s held together by his own unique aesthetic, a sonic signature which stamps everything he does as his and his alone. A Miami Music Week favorite will be joining this showcase: Pional is a Spanish producer, remixer and electronic musician from Madrid, Spain. His solo career under the name Pional began in 2010 when he released his first EP, A Moot Point on the Hivern Discs label. By now this man is touring the globe like its nothing!

This popular story in the Classical Kids series tells of the great composer Mozart’s young son, Karl, who longs to be taken from his boarding school to spend more time with his famous father. An old traveling trunk serves as a magic chest that reveals an incredible journey back in time to Mozart’s childhood and into the fantastic world of Mozart’s great opera The Magic Flute. Paws in the Pool – Bring man’s best friend for a day a the Venetian Pool. Session 1: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. for small dogs only up to 30 pounds. Session 2: 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for large dogs, 31 pounds and more. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required. Need to keep your dog on a leash when out of the pool. Dogs with signs of aggression will be asked to leave. Tickets will be sold at the door for a maximum of 200 dogs per session.

Moondance Experience – MoonDance Experience is a full moon gathering that involves dynamic yoga stretching, cacao activation, sound healing, ecstatic dancing, and meditation. During the event you will experience a welcome circle and intention setting cacao activation ceremony to set the tone. This is followed by yoga stretching, an “ecstatic dance” session, sound healing, and meditation prior to closing the circle. “Ecstatic Dance” is a form of dance in which the dancers move freely as the music takes them – the DJ guides the audience through an eclectic selection of tracks that build into a crescendo. The dancers begin and end in Savasana pose. This experience will be led by a team which includes the DJ, a yoga and circle facilitator, a musician/sound healer and special guests.

Deco Through Dance – #MiamiBeach’s history has always been one of change and movement; from a mosquito-infested swamp, to a coconut farm, and eventually a flourishing #ArtDeco mecca born out of a building boom. Taking into consideration the tensions between our future-oriented city and our past, Miami-based choreographer and dancer Liony Garcia brings you “Corporeal Decorum,” a research-oriented dance piece designed to document and preserve Miami’s iconic Deco architecture. The program includes a guided architectural tour with architectural historian Fredo Rivera.

100th Wallcast® Concert – You’re invited to NWS’s 100th WALLCAST® concert — the first to be in 4K from start to finish! Since winning the Grand Prix prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition and being awarded Gramophone’s 2016 Artist of the Year, pianist Daniil Trifonov has catapulted to global fame as “without question the most astounding pianist of our age” (The Times). Trifonov makes his NWS debut alongside MTT, performing fellow Russian pianist Alexander Scriabin’s only Concerto. Hector Berlioz’s dramatic symphony is a stirring portrayal of Shakespeare’s tragic love story. New Conducting Fellow Chad Goodman takes the New World Center podium for the first time for Ludwig van Beethoven’s Egmont Overture.

Hunter’s Moon Star Gazing – The Southern Cross Astronomical Society (SCAS) presents Hunter’s Moon Star Gazing at the Deering Estate on Monday, Oct. 14 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. October’s full Moon is generally known as the Hunter’s Moon. Bring a picnic and chairs/blanket to enjoy a relaxing evening with family and friends as you watch the full moon rise over Biscayne Bay. The Southern Cross Astronomical Society will also have telescopes on site to view the moon up close.
