June is a sneaky little month. On one end, we have the gorgeous sunny days only spring can deliver to South Florida and on the other, well, let’s just say rain is always on the horizon in the first month of summer. But have no fear! Us Floridians are basically born with webbed feet. A little humidity and moisture would never kill the fun. The first half of this month is a cultural doozy, with awesome happenings like outdoor concerts and food festivals, weekend-long nightclub celebrations, and quite a few new art exhibits opening around town. Tour Tropical Audubon’s Doc Thomas House – The historic home will be open to the public between 12:30pm & 4pm, with guided tours taking place at 1pm & 3pm Visit the historic Doc Thomas House for a captivating, 45-minute guided tour led by a Tropical Audubon Society docent. Learn about the Birds’ benefactor Arden Hayes “Doc” Thomas and Robert Fitch Smith, the architect Thomas commissioned to design the house. Sayiloveyou Speaker Series “From Trauma to Hope” – The #sayiloveyou Speakers Series was created to break down the stigmas around mental health by initiating a more authentic voice and conversation about our mental health wellness. CITY DINNER II – ‘SQUEEZED’ EP RELEASE SHOW – City Dinner is a collaboration between Lemon City Trio and Chef Joyce Sosa. This intimate concert & dinner will take place at The Bridge, a collaborative art space located just north of Wynwood. This event was created out of the band’s desire to provide a more engaging space to interact with their audience and to bring something new to the growing Miami music and cullinary scene. Lemon City Trio will play one set and De le Spam will be spinning vinyl before and after the performance. Zarabanda Band at First Friday – Zarabanda Band emerged in the late ’90s. They were originally contracted as the house band for the Zarabanda restaurant owned by renowned Cuban singer Willy Chirino. Within a few months Chirino was so impressed with how tight the band sounded that he asked them to be his official backing band. LEAP presents the Compassion Project, Opening Night – This photography project aims to upend the preconceptions our society has about incarcerated women. Who are they? How did they become incarcerated? Who and what have they left behind? What is possible for them now? The systemic inequities and costs of mass incarceration have garnered increasing attention. To date, scant attention has been paid to the fastest growing segment of the prison population: women. The pathways to prison and the issues facing women are different than those facing men and the impact of incarceration is often very profound on the children they are forced to leave behind.

Monsieur Periné / Hollywood, FL – One of today’s most enchanting alt-Latin artists, Monsieur Perine connects 1930s Paris with the youthful spirit of modern Bogotá, Colombia. To a base of Django Reinhardt-style gypsy jazz, the band adds a variety of classic Latin rhythms like cumbia, bolero and tango, and a host of traditional instruments like charango, bandoneon and Latin percussion.
