Wednesday, May 1st:

10 Days of Connection: Jam Night at the Wynwood Yard – Come explore new foods, new sounds, and new people at the The Wynwood Yard to kickoff 10 Days of Connection | Miami-Dade. This event is open to all and is free of charge. Bring a friend (or a stranger), come with an open heart, and get ready to enjoy a night of connection. You’ll want to stay until the end when we will come together for a community sing-along of “Lean on Me,” co-performed by all of the artists and the audience.

Free Stand Up Show! – Front Yard Theatre Collective presents the Graduation Show for their first ever Stand Up Workshop! For free! Los Amigos Invisibles & Aterciopelados – Los Amigos Invisibles is a Venezuelan band that plays a blend of disco, acid jazz and funk mixed with Latin rhythms. Aterciopelados are a rock band from Colombia.

Jazz at The Yard – Tables are pulled up near the stage for that jazzy club feel under the Eventstar Structures pavilion. Tour Tropical Audubon’s Doc Thomas House – Visit the historic Doc Thomas House for a captivating, 45-minute guided tour led by a Tropical Audubon Society docent. The Adventures of Antoine Doinel (35mm) – The release of François Truffaut’s THE 400 BLOWS in 1959 shook world cinema to its foundations. The now-classic portrait of troubled childhood introduced a major new director in the cinematic landscape and was an inaugural gesture of the revolutionary French New Wave. But The 400 Blows did not only introduce the world to its precocious director – it also unveiled his indelible creation: Antoine Doinel.

Holy Terrors “Cigarettello” Release Party – In 1992 Miami band The Holy Terrors released their 2nd single, “Cigarettello”, recorded with Frank “Rat Bastard” Falestra at Sync Studios in Miami Beach. The single became a staple on Miami’s own WVUM, and Rich Ulloa of Yesterday & Today Records has said it was the best-selling local single in Y&T’s history! Now, 27 years later, Y&T Music is releasing a Limited Edition EP with the original Cigarettello single (b/w Bad Thing) and two recently-unearthed never-before-heard songs recorded in 1990!

Docs and Books: A New Black Lounge Overtown Film & Book Series – Docs & Books is a new film and book series hosted by Black Lounge Film Series. Ni Aquí, Ni Allá— Luz Carabaño – For her solo project at Dimensions Variable, Luz Carabaño presents Ni Aquí, Ni Allá, a selection of her work which showcases the in-between space her paintings inhabit. Displacement plays a central role in these images. They stand between our world in their naturalistic renderings and another in abstract ambiguous fields. The paintings are always rooted in something seen, yet they are distant from their sources and often uncanny in appearance. Figures and objects become still in their suspended and phantasmagorical state, existing harmoniously in the velvety space of saturated tones and seamless gradients.
