When we think of February being the shortest month, that usually means it’ll go by in a blink. But other than having less days in between pay check cycles, this month is bringing a lot more to get excited about. In fact, we haven’t seen a month so stacked with incredible things to do in a very long time. From GroundUp Music Festival on the beach and Flamenco legends on stage, to epic outdoor concerts around town, there’s a lot to fill your schedules with. First Friday at ICA Miami: 305 Edition – Celebrate ICA Miami’s first season of First Fridays programming with a sample of Miami’s most exciting performing artists. Hosted by author and teaching artist Octavia Yearwood, ICA Miami and the Spoken Soul Festival present spoken word and hip hop from Miami-based artists King Hoodie, Triniti Wade, and Marnino Toussaint, with performances by Elastic Bond (live), DJ Kilo the Assistant and Vanya Allen.

Giralda Under the Stars: Swingin’ Folk & Jazz – Every first Friday of the month from November 2018 – April 2019, the community promenade will come alive with outdoor dining and music by local bands. Make sure to come early and fill those bellies with the delicious local eats of Restaurant Row’s vibrant selection of eateries, plus enjoy samples of Zacapa Rum and Tanqueray Gin, courtesy of Diageo. Big Cypress Night Sky Program – An evening of dark sky education and celebration! Farruquito in Miami – Heir to a famed gypsy flamenco dynasty, Farruquito first lit up the stage at age four, alongside his legendary grandfather El Farruco. Since then, he has been consistently acclaimed as one of flamenco’s greatest performers, a dance artist of breathtaking power, virtuosity, and passion whom the New York Times dubbed “an eagle in flight”.

Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom – After rescuing the Ark of the Covenant from the Nazis in Raiders of the Lost Ark, archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) travels to North India where poor villagers request his help recovering a stolen mystical gem and their missing children from an evil cult that lists human sacrifice as one of its core tenets. A notably darker sequel in tone, Temple of Doom also captures the spirit of the adventure serials Steven Spielberg and George Lucas’ youth.

Italian Style On Screen: The Girlfriend – In the second film of their spring series with the Miami Beach Cinematheque, Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1955 tragedy “Le Amiche,” a young woman sets out to open a boutique in postwar Turin only to become mixed up in her new friends’ life dramas. 2019 Historic House and Sites Summit – The second American Alliance of Museums, Historic House and Sites Network Summit, “Sustainability: Governance, Relevance and the Environment” at Vizcaya, located in Miami along the waters of Biscayne Bay. Under the Moonlight Concert w/ Keith Johns – The Barnacle Society is pleased to continue its Under the Moonlight Concert series with Indie Folk Artist Keith Johns, Feb. 9. Keith is a Miami-raised folk artist who crafts dynamic, beautifully layered music that reflects the variety of emotions present in all of our lives: at times joyful and celebratory, at times sorrowful and longing. He delivers richly nuanced stories in his unique voice with lyrics that are soulful and honest.

The New Normal – Laundromat Art Space is proud to present “The New Normal”, a group exhibition curated by Erin Parish. “The New Normal” addresses the idea that current environmental issues have become so prevalent as to become part of the cultural norm, informing humanity’s vision and concept of reality. Sweet Sweetback’s Baddass Song – This screening will be introduced by Carter Jackson-Brown…Miami-based curator and Founder/Creative Director of Ad Hoc Cinema; a traveling film+music presentation series and after-school film program. Included in MoMA’s permanent collection and considered to be among the most significant features ever by an African-American filmmaker, Sweet Sweetback’s is a brutal and shocking story of survival and is credited as one of the first blaxploitation films.

Art & Beats: A musical benefit for Ajhanou Uneek – A glass of wine at Jakmel Art Gallery as we come together in community to rally around Ajhanou Uneek. This event is being organized by Dita Devi, Jayme Gershen & Melanie Oliva. Diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer that has spread to her bones, liver and beyond, Ajhanou has started an intensive 2-month chemotherapy treatment. As she can no longer work, she urgently needs help with rent, utilities, food and transportation costs. Ajhanou has been active in the Miami artist, musician and activist communities for years – generously giving of her time and energy. Now it’s time for us to give her our support.

I AM MIAMI Microtheater – This special season of Microtheater, I AM MIAMI, emerged from our curiosity to better understand this interconnected cultural web we live in and serve. Thanks to the invaluable support from the Knight Foundation, we embarked into this adventure hand-in-hand with director and playwright Lucia Miranda. This journey has taken Lucia throughout all the corners of Miami, from Kendall to Wynwood, to Miami Beach to Allapattah, to meet and interview more than 60 people, all different, with amazing stories to tell. All of this was done to create an impossible biography, an incomplete human map of our city. The production will be translated and represented into seven 15-minute plays inside shipping containers.

Jeremy Piven – Jeremy Piven was most recently seen as a series regular in the CBS television series WISDOM OF THE CROWD.
